It was Spring Break at USU so we decided to run away from Logan to a place a little warmer, Zion National Park. We got there Monday evening and set up our tent which was a little difficult due to the gusty winds. Tim started a fire and we cooked our tin foil dinners. They didn't turn out to wonderful but it was our first try. We learned that ranch dressing doesn't work to well and we don't need to cook them so long. The evening was cold but it was warm in our tent so we slept well.
Tuesday morning we made an awesome breakfast and headed out to do some hiking. We hiked the Emerald Pools, and a shorter hike called Weeping rock. It was nice to get out and be active.
The Middle Pool

We had some fun with a big bolder we found on the trail.

The Upper Pool

On our way down the trail we saw a squirrel. Look closely at what he is eating. Yes, it is a pretzel. Tim pulled out his pack when we saw the little squirrel and started throwing pretzels at him. He liked them. I told Tim we should leave before he starts attacking us because he will want more. (At the end of our hike there was a lodge so we made a potty stop. There was a sign next to the restrooms saying not to feed the squirrels and there was a picture of someones hand with a bunch of stitches because of an attacking squirrel. If you work for the park don't get us in trouble. We promise not to do it again!)

One of the pretzels he threw landed on a branch. Pretty impressive!

Weeping Rock

Tim went a little crazy that night finding wood to make a big fire that night. He started it Bear Grizz style! The fire was big and warm!
Wednesday we hiked the Hidden Canyon....or at least we tried. We had to climb over some ice and snow at parts but we got to one ice pack that we didn't dare cross. It was blocking a fairly big chunk of the trail and if we slipped it was a long way down. We were able to make it half way and get a pretty site but we decided to come back when the snow was gone and finish the hike then.
The ice (it looks like snow but it was hard ice) blocking our path.

Even though we only went half way we were still pretty high.

We love Zion's and the warm weather!
That looks like so much fun! It reminds me of when Trevor was 2 and Nicole was 1 and we went camping in Moab. I'm glad you guys got to get away. :)
ReplyDeleteYou guys look like you had so much fun! Brent and I still haven't gone camping. We tried last year but things didn't work out. I'm so jealous! You guys are so cute.

ReplyDeleteWow! That sounds like so much fun! Maybe I should convince Barry to do that this summer. We're both going to be working part-time so we'll have lots of time for fun! Speaking of fun, it would be so fun to hang out with you guys! I know you're probably way busy with school, but lets find a time when we can get together.
ReplyDeleteHow cute are you two!!!!???? I barely remember what it was like our first year of marriage.
